It suffers from over compression and severe lack of dynamics. This is a widespread epidemic that is taking over the music industry, known as <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war">the loudness war</a>. There are many articles describing what exactly these flaws are and some of these articles are linked below. Despite these obvious flaws, Lars Ulrich, drummer for the band, has <a href="http://blog.wired.com/music/2008/09/lars-ulrich-res.html">acknowledged the outcry and for the most part dismissed fan's complaints</a>. There have been over <a href="http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/re-mix-or-remaster-death-magnetic.html">12,000 signatures added to the petition</a> for a re-release of the album, mixed properly. There is currently a movement to mass mail the retail CD purchased by fans to the band's HQ. A target date of <span style="font-weight: bold;">October 17</span> for the mass mailing.<br /><br />Participants in this mass mailing are urged to determine the mailing date of the CDs to arrive at HQ on October 17.
